The Consulate General will issue NRN (Non-Residential Nepali) Identity Cards for eligible foreign nationals of Nepali origin or Nepali nationals residing abroad.
APPLY ONLINE HERE (after creating an account by signing up first)
For Foreign Nationals of Nepali Origin (Valid for 10 Years)
Required Documents:
- Duly filled Online Application Form (printed and signed by the applicant)
- Copy of U.S. Naturalization/Citizenship Certificate or U.S. Birth Certificate (if born in the U.S.)
- Copy of U.S. Passport
- Proof of Nepali Origin:
For previous Nepali national
- Copy of Nepali Citizenship Certificate/ Minor Certificate/ Birth Certificate (if previously a Nepali national)
- Certificate of the renunciation of Nepali Citizenship (if previously a Nepali citizen)
For second generation applicant
- Copy of Nepali Citizenship of Father/Mother
- Copy of relationship certificate establishing relation with the Nepali Father/Mother
- Proof of occupation in the USA
- Recent Passport-Size Photograph (45 mm x 35 mm, 400x300 pixels)
- Signature of the Applicant on plain white paper
All copies of documents must be self-attested (write "True Copy" on the back with the applicant"s signature and date).

Renewal of NRN ID card:
Same requirements for a new application and a copy of the previous NRN ID card
Replacement of NRN ID card due to Loss/Damage:
Applicants applying for a replacement due to loss or damage must submit the same required documents as a new application, along with:
- A copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID
- A self-declaration letter stating that the ID was lost/damaged
- Fee: $1,040.00
For Nepali Nationals Currently Living Abroad (Valid for 2 Years)
Required Documents:
- Duly filled in Online Application Form (printed and signed by the applicant)
- Copy of Nepali Citizenship Certificate
- Copy of Nepali Passport (Biographic data page from a valid passport)
- Copy of Green Card (if applicable)
- Proof of Address (any official document showing the applicant"s current address)
- Proof of occupation (Documents related to business or employment in the current country of residence, if applicable)
All copies of the required documents must be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back, along with the applicant"s signature and date).
Fees: $70.00
Renewal of NRN ID card:
Same requirements for a new application and a copy of the previous NRN ID card.
Replacement of NRN ID card due to Loss/Damage:
Applicants applying for a replacement due to loss or damage must submit the same required documents as a new application, along with:
- A copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID
- A self-declaration letter stating that the ID was lost/damaged
- Fee: $140.00
Application processing time: Processing time takes 7-10 business days.
